About
Nautitech

History of the Nautitech brand

Nautitech was born in 1994 on the Atlantic coast of France, initially as a division of the Dufour Yachts Group. From the outset, the yard set out to occupy a distinctive position in the market — neither the heavy slow cruising catamaran nor the uncompromising and uncomfortable performance boat, but a crafted balance of the two. The founding range of the 395, 435 and 475 established a design DNA of relatively slender hulls, twin aft helms and a focus on sailing feel that remains central to the brand today.

In 2002, Bruno Voisard took over the brand with a clear vision: Seaworthy, fast and owner-focused. It was under his direction that designer Marc Lombard was brought in, a collaboration that defined the modern era of Nautitech and gave birth to the Open concept: the merging of saloon and cockpit into a single connected living space, an idea since widely imitated across the industry.

Passing to independent ownership, Nautitech focuses on quality from its base in Rochefort-sur-Mer — deliberately reflecting a commitment to quality over volume. The current 44 Open and 48 Open have collected back-to-back European Yacht of the Year awards in 2023 and 2025, and the all-new 41 Type S, unveiled in 2025, points confidently towards the next chapter.

The Nautitech 48 Open takes everything that made the brand's performance catamarans so desirable and opens it up – quite literally. Designed by Marc Lombard with interiors by Christophe Chedal-Anglay, the 48 Open benefits from the latest advances in hydrodynamic performance, with hull slenderness, bridgedeck height, sail area and displacement all carefully balanced to deliver a genuinely well-balanced boat. This is a catamaran designed for people who want to be outside, connected to the sailing process and feel, without sacrificing comfort.

The defining characteristic is the vast, uninterrupted cockpit that flows seamlessly into the saloon, erasing the boundary between interior and exterior. Chedal-Anglay's signature touch is the central bar positioned at the heart of the living space – close to the mast and at the centre of gravity – which becomes the natural gathering point for crew and guests alike. The double aft helm stations, a hallmark of the Open range, keep the skipper connected to both the sails and the cockpit, making for safer and more enjoyable sailing.

Nautitech's SmartRoom® concept truly sets the 48 Open apart from the competition in terms of flexibility – the starboard forward area can be configured as a utility workshop, laundry room, or adaptable guest cabin depending on your sailing programme. Available in three or four cabin layouts, she is equally capable as a private bluewater cruiser or a charter vessel.

Build quality is take very seriously. We believe anyone considering a performance cruising catamaran in the 45 to 52 foot range owes it to themselves to spend time aboard a Nautitech 48 Open before committing elsewhere. She punches well above her size in terms of sailing ability and liveable space, while her pricing remains competitive against comparable builds from other respected yards.

The Nautitech 44 Open is the natural evolution of a well-established line. Designed once again by naval architect Marc Lombard with interiors by Christophe Chedal-Anglay, the 44 Open takes the DNA of the range – inverted bow, slender hulls, twin helm stations, that signature open-plan living concept – and refines it with sharper lines, improved rigging, and an interior layout that redefines what you expect from a catamaran at this length.

The SmartRoom® concept carries over from the 48 Open – the forward starboard area can be configured as a workshop, laundry room, or adaptable sleeping cabin, making the 44 a genuinely capable bluewater passage-maker.

Press response on launch was strong. Yachting World, Cruising World, and the German title Yacht all reviewed the 44 Open favourably in 2022, each noting the same balance of sailing performance and interior comfort that Nautitech has built its reputation on.

41 Type S

41 Type S brochure specification and details

The Nautitech 41 Type S is something different. Where the Open range prioritises that seamless indoor-outdoor flow, the Type S is built around a single obsession: lightness. At 9.6 tonnes it is the lightest 41-footer on the market – and that has real consequences for how she sails.

Designed again by Marc Lombard Yacht Design Group with interiors by Christophe Chedal-Anglay, the Type S brings carbon fibre and vinylester composites into the structure, an aft-stepped mast to centralise weight, and a sail area/displacement ratio optimised to make the most of it. The result is a boat that should feel noticeably more alive than anything else at this size.

The interior takes a different approach too – a 50/50 split between inside and outside living space, a fully glazed aft bulkhead for 360° visibility, and modular textile storage in place of traditional joinery to keep weight down without sacrificing comfort. The SmartRoom® carries over from the broader range.

Nautitech have also introduced what they call a ReShape philosophy – the boat is pre-wired and designed with future technology upgrades in mind, intended to hold its value and adapt over time rather than date quickly.

This is a boat for buyers who find the standard cruising catamaran compromise – volume traded against performance – unsatisfying. If sailing feel matters as much as living space, the 41 Type S warrants a serious look.
